HUNTING LARGE POLOCK. Biggest fish ever for me speared off the coast of North Wales. AGUATTO (stalking through the kelp) style hunting works well on larger pollock and there’s some great examples of that in this video. 74cm Pollock weighing 7.8lbs. Also my first Sea Bass from a large shoal of 2023 coming in at a not too shabby 51cm. Please let me know what you think. ENJOY!

SET THE KILL ZONE. When setting up an ambush dictating where the fish will swim will help you to be successful. If the fish are not hunting they may not be willing to come close. Putting natural features such as kelp reefs or dense stringy weed between you and open water will force the fish into your kill zone. This video is a good example of such a tactic.

TARGET PRESENTATION: Before you spear a fish you need to know what species it is, what size is the fish and where is my best chance to kill the fish and save as much meat as possible. Side on is the preferred profile to tick all those boxes, especially in the UK. Trout and Salmon often travel with Sea Bass and Mullet but are not allowed to be speared. The best way to identify a fish is side on.

ASPETTO style hunting. This video is a great example of laying in ambush and using a good breath hold along with patience to wait for the fish to come within range. This is a useful method when there is low cover and plenty of open water. The Sea Bass in this video had a hunchback and was aptly named the hunch bass of Notre Dame. Enjoy and safe hunting.

AGUATTO style hunting is a really fun way to aggressively hunt your fish, especially in lower visibility. Don't wait for them to come to you, dive down onto a kelp reef and pull yourself along until you surprise your intended species. This video is a great example of AGUATTO with success on a nice size pollock. This method will reduce your subsurface downtime but can be really enjoyable too. In some cases, you don't need to dive down. If you are really shallow pulling yourself along the kelp in just 0.5m of water you'll be surprised what you'll find chilling out in the shallow pools.

HUNCH BASS OF NOTRE DAME: A few clips of hunting North Wales coastline. In this video I catch my PB Bass at that time. It had a slight kink in its back, hence the name. Tasted great none the less.

DOUBLE MULLET & HIDDEN GEO-CACHE: Down to one of my favourite marks in North Wales. Found my first ever official geocache in an abandoned manganese mine. Really milky conditions and as my GoPro battery ran out in typical fashion the mullet start to show themselves. Bagged two beauties and will be making some chilli fish cakes with these. Thanks for taking the time to watch. Dive safely.

FRESHWATER FREEDIVING WITH PERCH

cycled up to lake Udvalstjønna in Midt Telemark, Norway. Not a sole around, just Mother Nature and I. Randomly there were some dive boards, and I couldn’t resist jumping in. A few Perch approached and the longer I stayed the bolder they got until, quite a large shoal appeared to be following me. The water was so clear a Norwegian later came and asked if we have this type of water to swim in the UK and drank a full handful in front of me. Sadly, I would not do this in UK. NORWAY stunning country so far. Subscribe to see more Norway adventures. #freediving #norway #freshwater #adventure #fishing

CALLING IN THE MULLET:Great shot on this small shoal of Mullet that came to check me out. Vis wasn’t great but sometime that can help you.
