I’m Glyn, a former Royal Marines Commando, and in 2018, I rowed over 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, as part of a 4-man team, in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic challenge - a huge experience that stayed with me for years afterwards!

Now I want to give others a taste of the same adventure that I had, but complemented with a great new sport I found during my training for the expedition, spearfishing.

For me, spearfishing is not just a hobby, it's a way of life. It's a chance to connect with nature and challenge myself physically and mentally. There's something incredibly satisfying about being able to hunt your own food, especially when it comes from the ocean.

One of the best things about spearfishing is the level of skill required to be successful. It's not just a matter of jumping in the water and shooting a fish. You need to have a deep understanding of the ocean, the behaviours of different fish species, and the ability to hold your breath and swim with precision.

But it's not just about the challenge. Spearfishing is also a great way to connect with a community of like-minded individuals who share your passion for the ocean and sustainable living. It's a chance to learn from others and to teach others, to share tips and tricks, and to celebrate the successes of fellow ‘spearos’.

And of course, there's nothing quite like the feeling of landing that perfect shot, seeing the fish you've been stalking for minutes finally succumb to your skill, and bringing it back to the surface to share with others.
