Adventure Rowing & Wild Camping in NORWAY Spring / Summer 2025

Telemarkskanalen SKIEN to DALEN.

Telemarkskalen

When opened in 1892, the Telemark canal was referred to as the 8th wonder of the world. Situated in South-East Norway, over 100km of manmade and natural waterway links the Baltic Sea to the town of Dalen. You can explore the beautiful and imposing landscape whilst rowing surrounded by mountains, forrest, waterfalls and wildlife. The Telemark region has a wonderful history and if you joined us for a weekend we would highly recommend a longer stay in the area to take in all the Commune has to offer. Join Adventures Per Mare to be the first to experience this journey by ocean rowing boat in 2025. Our experienced Skipper Glyn Sadler, will guide you through the lakes and canal locks, making sure you are safe, catered for and able to contribute as an effective crew member.

SKIEN to DALEN or DALEN to SKIEN

Our boat Little Nell is greatly looking forward to getting back in the water in 2025 where she belongs. Depending on which leg you chose you can row from Skien to Dalen or Dalen to Skien. Either way you’ll still see some of the most wonderful scenery Norway has to offer. Like Ocean Rowing nothing is guaranteed least of all the weather. So, we have contingency plans in place to give you the best possible experience. However, Adventures Per Mare promotes an ethos of team unity and we will all look after each other while in pursuit of our objectives. You’ll be rowing, resting, eating, sleeping and living onboard Little Nell with all the luxuries she can provide. There will also be chance to enjoy some wild camping spots, local cuisine and maybe even a sauna by a lake.

These expeditions can be tailored to suit complete novice rowers or the experienced rowing adventurer. Glyn has enough knowledge, experience and skill to allow for any bespoke requests on our adventures. If you want a go at man overboard drills, anchoring drills, steering or navigating we can certainly tailor to higher level to test you. If you want to be a more effective ocean rower or adventurer we’ve got you covered. Don’t be fooled by some of the tranquil images you see of the lakes, the surrounding steep valleys can sometimes act like a wind tunnel, funnelling the air drawn in from the sea as the summer sun warms up the mountain sides. This is where our local knowledge, planning and preparation comes into play. All safety equipment and rations will be provided. We can send you a full suggested kit list for all our adventures.

Vrangfoss Slusse 5 locks and 23meter rise and fall.

EVENING ON TELEMARK LAKES

Monday to Wednesday we will be running half day rows exploring the lakes of Telemark. This is intended as an intro in life on board an ocean Rowing boat in calmer waters and beautiful surroundings. There is a potential to sleep on board to make a night of it.

Up to 6 hour evening rowing experience £175 (~2400 NOK) per person.

We can organise a night time row although there is not much night time in Norway during the summer, you would most likely be rowing in twighlight which is an experience in it self. This would cost an additional £175 (~2400 NOK) per person.

If you wanted to remain onboard Little Nell as a sort of glamping experience, we can anchor you up for the night or find a remote jetty. You will be required to help return Little Nell to her original berth early hours of the morning. We do have a small BBQ onboard so this and a few well earned beers could be the end to the perfect row. Cost £100 (~1300 NOK) per person.

NOTE: All adventures must be paid for in full 28 days prior to undertaking. We pride ourselves on being highly organised and making sure you get the best experience possible. This includes contingencies. The weather is less a consideration when not at sea, however, there are always extreme weather events that could prevent the full experience from being obtained.

Dates to be confirmed.

18th MAY to 6th SEPTEMBER 2025 15 evening slots remaining
